Profitable parts are taken out and the rest is then shipped overseas to china/asia/middle east Developing countries.

It goes through a process of DIY recycling by the poorer people of the countries. In this process burning and other methods that release toxic gases and elements are used.

Why does so much e-waste get shipped to Asia?

Because of the easiness and its cheap for the companies involved.

No protective equipment so the people are exposed to hazardous substances that are released during the processes used to remove anything of value.

Some products that come into the USA use or are contaminated with metals and toxins from e-waste that left the USA.
